Brawl stars Accessible, fun, and addicting

Brawl Stars is a far simpler game than the producers’ other main IPs, Clash of Clans and Clash Royale. There are two main controls (a movement joystick and an aiming joystick) and a couple other buttons to use “special” abilities. The game features 3v3 gameplay, which can help children learn about teamwork and working together to overcome an obstacle, as well as some solo Battle Royale-style gameplay.

Although the game features many different rewards that can be bought with in-game currency, it’s far less extreme than the levels of consumerism found in Clash Royale, where purchasing extra “cards” is basically required in order to play well. For example, a seasonal pass that previously could only be bought with money in CR is available for purchase with “gems”, which also happen to be far easier to collect.

The game revolves around collecting and using different characters. Each character levels up individually and the game’s difficulty scales along with each character’s level. I personally found the matchmaking very fair, and when your team is at a level disadvantage against the opponent, the game will also grant you an “Underdog” bonus regardless of the outcome.

The fact that you can change characters and playstyles at any time means that if your child gets frustrated at any time, they can change to another character instead of taking a break. This lends itself an addictive quality, especially as there’s also a multitude of gamemodes to play at any time. If you choose to buy this for your child, you should set time limits or remind them to take a break every once in a while.

The violence is cartoony and not at all graphic; characters yell funny catchphrases when defeated, and respawn quickly. One character in particular is quite vulgar, but is censored with drill sounds (“go shove a brrr in your brrr!”)
All in all, for a mobile multiplayer game, this is Really Good
